Wind & Football

Yes, we are approaching Superbowl Weekend. Yes, the Seattle Seahawks are playing. I wish them well—after all, I live in Seattle, I have to say that, don’t I? ~grins~ Will we be watching? No, if the electricity gods are kind, I will be getting my hair done. The only sports we watch are figure skating, the Olympics, and some of the X-games. Oh, and if ballroom dancing comes on, we’ll watch that.

Big storm coming in tonight—way big storm that could knock out power for a whole lot of people. We’re looking at sustained winds 30-45 mph and gusts from 50-80 mph, and heavy rain from the wee hours of Saturday all the way through the day. So I’ve been spending all day hunting down the flashlights, making sure the candles are ready, picking up so there’s nothing on the floor to trip over in the dark. I’m listening to the weather report right now and they’re saying that this could be our biggest storm in six years, when the 520 Floating Bridge (you can see pics on that site of the bridge) was damaged. (The bridge is the longest floating pontoon bridge in the world at almost 7600 feet long and it has to be closed when winds reach 50 miles an hour for 15 minutes...it spans Lake Washington to connect the Eastside--Bellevue, Redmond, etc. where we live, with Seattle proper) They’re basically saying the storm is dangerous, and to have everything ready for loss of power, and to be wary if you’re out for flying debris.

From December 19th to the end of January, we had only two days with no measurable precipitation. During January, we had ten days with at least .55 to 1.33" of rain on each of those days. We normally get an average of 5.13" of rain during January and this year, we got 11.65", and it was the third wettest month on record for Seattle. And the Cascade snowpack is 150% of normal...

And with all the rain we've been getting, a lot of trees have already fallen over because the saturated ground can't hold their roots firmly, we’ve had so many landslides I’ve lost count. Now, winds like we’re expecting could knock down a whole lot of trees. What's funny is because of the Superbowl and the Seahawks going to it, the power company and cable company have been going out and preparing for the potential power outages in advance—because can you imagine the irritation of all those fans who have waited for thirty years for the SH to get to the Superbowl, then not being able to watch it on TV because the power's out?

So Go Seahawks! After thirty years, you have a chance at the top. As someone who would love to reach the ‘golden ring’ in my profession, I understand that desire. I may not like football, I may not really care about the games, but I ~get~ the competitive drive. And let’s hope the storm somehow weakens before it hits shore.

Cheers,
Yasmine

New Books out are always Fun!

I wrote my erotic novella mainly to see if I could do it. And now that it's out I realize what a blast it was and can't wait to finish the second one. Make A Wish Darling at Triskelion Publishing is my version of Quantum Leap meets Lady Chatterly's Lover. Prada Wishes, the second novella, will be a man's ex wife turned into his fairy godmother. Strange, yes. But trust me, it work and is a lot of fun.

As writers we need to do something entirely different at times. This was my breaking out of my mold. I've made a lot of changes in my writing and the best part is it's been working for m.

We writers need to try something different at times. It keeps us fresh.

And I just like the challenge.

Back to it

I'm ready to write. I had to take about month off for the day job, and I've missed working on a book. Of course, after writing four books in a year, I probably wouldn't have said that a month ago. :-) I'm working on a new proposal and then I'm writing the third Bronwyn book "Charmed & Deadly." I was going to call it "Charmed & Wicked," but my editor suggested Deadly last week and I really like it. It fits the book well. I'm off to a meeting with my boss this morning. Fingers crossed that it goes well. Ack. I don't like confrontation.

Happy Last Day of January

YAY...my editor loved Witchling--the first book in the new series! Some revisions, but mostly just pumping up a few things that I wasn't sure she'd want, but that she likes. No plot revisions, she loves the characters...so that's a GOOD THING.

I finished the page proofs and sent them off today, now to dive into revisions of Witchling, and then back to Glossed and Found!

Yasmine <very happy today>

Author copies are so much fun!

I received the author copies for my March Silhouette Intimate Moments, Memories After Midnight this week and I totally love this cover. The guy on it ain't bad either :-} Take a look!
This is just how I imagined my guy too. Dylan was in two previous books and from the beginning I adored this guy. Some heroes just stick with us longer. In the first book he shared perhaps five lines with his ex-wife even though she was mentioned throughout the book courtesy of his oddball alimony payments. But even then I knew Dylan would be getting back with Alex even if I wasn't going to make it easy for them. And I didn't. I'll miss Dylan, but I know someone a bit like him will show up sometime because I just plain love writing that personality.

And I really think this cover would make great wallpaper in my office. :-)
